If you’re worried about paying for college, you are NOT alone!

One of the best ways to make college affordable is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The FAFSA is renewable and unlocks different types
of financial aid.

By completing this form, you may be awarded a Pell Grant, which is free cash in your pocket that does not need to be repaid!

Some of the aid you might qualify for is first-come, first-served, which means it can run out if you wait too long to apply.

If you need help with any part of the process, you can reach out to your school counselor or visit Federal Student Aid’s Help Center, which offers support via phone or live chat.

Free sessions for one-on-one help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, commonly known as FAFSA, begin for Alachua County on Thursday, thanks to the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce’s Alachua County Education Compact.

Through the Cash for College initiative, current or prospective students and their families can learn about the financial benefits of completing FAFSA, get counseling and computer access to fill out the form itself and receive a $25 gift card for completing an application at one of the six sessions, according to Ian Fletcher, the chamber’s chief operating officer.

“A lot of kids feel like, ‘I can’t go to college because I don’t have the money to pay for it,'” Fletcher said. “The financial aid form can be a daunting task when you sit down and look at it … We want to educate them that there’s an option.”

Cash for College: FAFSA completion workshops scheduled for July

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – High school seniors getting ready for college are getting help applying for funding. The Greater Gainesville Chamber is teaming up with the Florida College Access Network to promote Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion.

Different sessions are being held across Gainesville through the month of July. This year is aimed at helping the Class of 2021 graduates, along with the class of 2020 graduates who were unable to fill it out last year.

Greater Gainesville Chambers VP of Economic Development, Staci Bertrand, said FAFSA funding could make all of the difference for a family sending their child to college.

“Funding is a barrier to access post-secondary education of any kind,” said Bertrand.”A lot of times for students who need access to the funding, many may not be able and think its more challenging than it really is to complete the form.”
